ICTG 2024

The 5th International Conference on Transportation Geotechnics (ICTG), held in Sydney, marked a milestone in the geotechnical and transportation engineering community. Organized by the UTS Transport Research Centre (UTS-TRC), this prestigious event brought together over 450 delegates from 30 countries, making it a truly global gathering for experts in the field.

Themed around Transportation Geotechnics (TC202), with co-themes of Ground Improvement (TC211) and Sustainability (TC307), the conference covered a wide spectrum of research, practices, and technological advancements. The event was an excellent platform for knowledge sharing, intellectual discourse, and forging new collaborations.

The conference was officially opened by Hon. Dr. Marjorie O’Neill, Parliamentary Secretary for Transportation, Dr. Marc Ballouz, President of ISSMGE, and Mr. Tim Thompson, National Chair of the Australian Geomechanics Society. Their speeches set the tone for a thought-provoking event, with over 15 keynote lectures and nearly 20 invited theme lectures during the three days of sessions.

The gathering was not just a learning experience but also an opportunity for attendees to engage in brainstorming sessions and share insights that will shape the future of transportation geotechnics, ground improvement, and sustainable solutions in infrastructure development.

I felt the training was very thorough. If anyone doesn’t know how to use a PANDA after that session, they shouldn’t be using one at all.
